Business Planning & Development Unit
The Business Planning & Development (BPD) Unit has been established in the CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar under NAIP (ICAR) at IPR Cell, Directorate of Human Resource Management. The BPD Unit has three subunits including a Veterinary Products Unit (VPU), established at the College of Veterinary Sciences, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences. The BPD (VPU) is located at the Ground Floor, New Block, College of Veterinary Sciences and the Entrepreneur’s Lab has been named as “Technology Business Incubator”.

The faculty of LUVAS has a rich history of many pioneering achievements in the field of Veterinary & Animal Sciences. The BPD Unit is established with a goal to promote start up business ventures in the field of Veterinary and Animal Sciences for the benefit of farmers/ entrepreneurs by establishing Technology Business

Incubator to facilitate commercialization of technologies and to promote & nurture innovative technologies for sustainable development through business incubation. Through this goal, the BPD Unit’s mission is to identify, encourage, motivate & support the inventors of technologies to turn their inventions/ research outcomes towards a viable commercial venture.

The Scientists of LUVAS have developed several products and technologies ready for commercialization in the potential areas covering veterinary public health, diagnostic kits for important animal diseases, technologies related to milk and meat products and feed additives. The laboratories in constituent departments are well equipped with modern scientific instruments and specialized equipments. The university has set up a Technology Business Incubator having necessary basic physical infrastructure by offering furnished office and lab space to private/ public sector and sharing of resources such as specialized equipment and support services for incubation of technologies leading to licensing of the technologies.

Objective of the project:
  • To identify the potential technologies ready for commercialization and licensing of technology to private sector, new technology entrepreneurs and start-up companies
  • Development of entrepreneurship and agri-business enterprise through training & incubation facilities for young, small and medium size entrepreneurs to promote university’s technologies
  • Promotion of partnership with institutions in public and private sectors in order to develop novel and commercially viable technologies/products and business ideas through backward linkage from industry
  • Fastening the technology transfer

The Business Planning and Development Unit of COVS (BPD-VPU) organized its first ever ‘Entrepreneur awareness and market sensitization’ campaign at CCSHAU Kisan Mela 2010. This event provided a platform to the BPD unit for market survey of agro based national and multinational companies as well as Entrepreneurs about the scope of commercialization of animal health diagnostics and other potential technologies. During the Kisan Mela, many farmers, scientists and representatives of industries visited the stall of BPD (VPU) and enquired about technologies developed by scientists of College of Veterinary Sciences.

Public Awareness and Market Sensitization Campaign for “Milk Urea Detection Kit” (April 24, 2010)

A public awareness and market sensitization campaign was organized by the BPD (VPU) at ATIC Building on the occasion of World Veterinary Day (24.4.10). The main objectives of the campaign were i) to make public aware about the “Field Spot Test to Detect Urea in Milk” developed by the Scientists of the Deptt. of Vety. Public Health and Epidemiology, and ii) to survey the public acceptance of the “Milk Urea Detection Kit” in order to commercialize/ license the above technology/ kit through the BPD (VPU).

Second “Milk Urea Detection” Campaign on World Milk Day (June 1, 2010)

After a request from the Manager, ATIC, CCS HAU, the Advisory Committee of BPD (VPU) decided to organize 2nd Milk Urea Detection campaign at ATIC building on the occasion of World Milk Day i.e. 1.6.10. A total of 100 people got their milk samples tested. Further, a record number of 409 kits (400 @ Rs. 30/- and 9 @ Rs. 100/-) were sold which demonstrated an overwhelming response from the public.

Technology Demonstration Show at KVK Kurukshetra (19.06.2010)

The BPD Unit of CCS HAU participated in one day Technology Demonstration Show organized during Field Day by KVK Kurukshetra. The Technology Show was inaugurated by DDG Education (ICAR) and presided over by worthy Vice-Chancellor, CCS HAU. The BPD (VPU) also actively participated by demonstrating its all the four technologies for commercialization/ licensing. BPD (VPU) sold 17 kits (16 @ Rs. 30/- and 1 @ Rs. 100/) during the above technology show.

Milk Urea Detection-cum-Public Awareness Campaign in Urban Areas of Hisar during July – August 2010

A “Milk Urea Detection-cum-Public Awareness Campaign” was organized by the BPD (VPU) along with Dainik Jagran with the objective of publicizing the availability of Milk Urea Detection Test and Kits, and making public aware about menace of synthetic milk in human food chain. A total of six “Milk Urea Detection-cum-Public Awareness Camps” were organized in six different urban areas of Hisar. During these camps, more than one thousand milk samples have been got tested by the public and a large number of people made aware about the detection of urea in milk as well as adverse effects of urea in the body after its consumption through milk. However, none of the milk samples tested positive for urea in the vicinity of Hisar urban area.

Agreement for purchase of Milk Urea Detection Reagent by Entrepreneur

An entrepreneur entered in to the agreement with CCS HAU Hisar on 28.7.2010 for the purchase of Milk Urea Detection Reagent for the modulation and re-validation of the technology . Dr. R. P. Narwal, Director of Research signed the agreement on behalf of CCS HAU at a function organized by the IPR-BPD Cell of the Directorate of HRM. Dr. Rakesh Kashyap, Director, HRM presided over the function and Dr. A. K. Pruthi, Dean, COVS -cum- Chairman, BPD (VPU) participated in the function as a special invitee.

Availability of Milk Urea Detection Kits at ATIC Gate No. 4, CCS HAU

The Field Spot Test to detect Urea in Milk was converted in the form of two “Milk Urea Detection Kits” i) small and ii) big, containing material for 10 and 30 tests at special subsidized prices (no profit, no loss basis) of Rs. 30/- and Rs. 100/-, respectively in a very attractive plastic box by the BPD Unit. During “Milk Urea Detection Campaigns, both of these kits were made available for the use of general public at the Kisan Sewa Kendra, Rajgarh Road, Gate No. 4, CCS HAU, Hisar with the permission of the Vice-Chancellor. A large number of people from Hisar, surrounding areas as well as Delhi are purchasing these kits. The response of sale of Milk Urea Detection Kits at the Kisan Sewa Kendra is encouraging and the kits are becoming popular with the milk consumers of nearby areas. The Govt. Milk Plant Mohali (Punjab) had procured quite a good number of these kits from CCS HAU Hisar for detection of urea in milk being collected by them.

International Animal Industry EXPO – 2010, Karnal

The BPD Unit participated and exhibited its products and technologies viz., Milk Urea Detection Kit, Hemorrhagic Septicemia (HS) Antibody detection Kit, HS antigen detection Kit and Trypanosma evansi Latex Agglutination test, meat and dairy technologies: sugar-free rasogullas, low-cholesterol burfee, spiced paneer, etc. in IAI EXPO – 2010 organized by M/s Pixie Consultants, India at Karnal during October 27-29, 2010. After the overwhelming response from national as well as international companies, about 80 start up and medium scale entrepreneurs, biotech, diagnostics, dairy and food industries were shortlisted for exploring commercialization of CCS HAU products as well as with the idea that they may play a vital role in University- Veterinary Industry Linkage Programs in the near future.

Availability of Milk Urea Detection Kits at Veterinary Clinics subunit, Uchani, Karnal

In response to the demand of residents of Karnal and surrounding area visiting IAI EXPO – 2010 and on the request of Officer Incharge, the “Milk Urea Detection Kit” was made available for the use of general public at the Veterinary Clinics Subunit TVSC, Uchani, Karnal.

AGROTECH – 2010, Chandigarh

The BPD Unit participated and exhibited the products and technologies developed by the Scientists of COVS in AGRO-TECH 2010 organized by the Haryana Government (December 3-6, 2010) at Chandigarh, Haryana. Agro-Tech is one of the largest fair of Science and Technology in the field of Agriculture in northern India. Young entrepreneurs from all over the India including many multinational companies who visited the fair were very curious about the process of detection of adulterants, especially urea in milk. They appreciated the low cost technology developed by the scientists of the CCS HAU which was benefiting the common people. Further, the officials of Haryana Government and other dignitaries showed interest in the demonstration and availability of “Milk Urea Detection Kit”. They were informed about the availability of “Milk Urea Detection Kit” at Agriculture Technology Information Centre, CCS HAU Hisar as well as at the Veterinary Subunit TVSC, Uchani, Karnal

Training of Scientists at NAARM, Hyderabad

Four Scientists of BPD Unit, LUVAS underwent Capacity Building training on “IPR Management and Commercialization Techniques” at NAARM, Hyderabad from December 14-21 2010. The training module covered a broad overview of the entire gamut of Intellectual Property Rights ranging from Geographical Indications, Trademark for augmenting business strategies, IP Management policy, Translational Research and Commercialization, Exercises on patent search, Patent Drafting and Prosecution, Valuation of technologies, Strategy for technology transfer, etc.

Entrepreneurship Development Workshop

To pursue the cause of commercialization, strengthening of collaboration with the industry and entrepreneurship development for Veterinary and Livestock Products, a one day Entrepreneurship Development Workshop was organized on Jan. 14, 2011. Mr. M. K. Verma, MSME, Karnal Mr. S. Chopra, Director Anytime Snacks Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi Mr. P. K. Kataria, Director PNB, Farmer’s Training Centre, Sacchakhera, Jind &Mr. Kanwaljit, Manager, HAFED , Rohtak delivered their lectures. In total, there were around 90 participants.

Visit to BPD Unit, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat

Dr. N. K. Kakker, Co-P.I., BPD (VPU) Unit visited BPD Unit, Anand Agricultural University, Anand and few entrepreneurs/ companies related to Dairy/ Veterinary Diagnostics products for strengthening the linkages and promoting the CCSHAU/LUVAS technologies in Gujarat region from Jan 17-19, 2011. Dr. R. V. Vyas, Head and P.I., BPD Unit, AAU, Anand requested PI, BPD Unit, CCS HAU to enter into MOU with AAU Anand for commercialization/ Co-Business Incubation of the “Milk Urea Detection Technology” through BPD Unit, AAU, Anand, as Guajrat is the leader in dairy co-operatives in the country. The Advisory Committee decided to enter into MOU with AAU, Anand for commercialization of our technologies and vice-versa on the pattern of NRDC, through BPD Unit, CCS HAU.

IPR Workshop

An awareness workshop on “IPR and Commercialization in Agriculture” for the selected faculty members and Post- Graduate students, CCSHAU was organized on January 29, 2011 by the IPR subunit of the BPD Unit at DHRM, CCS HAU Hisar. The awareness workshop was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CCS HAU, Dr. K. S. Khokhar and presided over by Dr. R. P. Narwal, Director of Research, CCS HAU at Directorate of HRM. The main objective of the workshop was to make the students aware about the value of their work being done during PG research, and for which they can get IPR protection and which can be subsequently commercialized. In this programme, Dr.Suresh Kumar, Sr. Scientist from TIFAC, New Delhi, Mr. S. Aravazhi from ICRISAT, Hyderabad, Mr. Kanwaljeet from HAFED, Chandigarh, Mr. M. K. Verma from MSME, Karnal and Mr. Waryam Singh from PNB Hisar acted as Resource Persons. Besides, Dr. (Mrs.) Rajbala Grewal, Head, Deptt. of Food Science & Technology, CCS HAU also encouraged the students for starting entrepreneurship with FST products and technologies. The topics covered were IPR & its Importance, Support to Student Entrepreneurs through Incubators, Success Stories of Innovative Entrepreneurs, Quality Management Systems in India, Entrepreneurship and how to set up Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Credit Counseling for Entrepreneurship.On this occasion an Information compendium on “Intellectual Property Rights in India: An Introduction” was also released which covers salient information on various aspects of Intellectual Property Rights and its management.

Training at ICRISAT, Hyderabad

Dr. N. K. Kakker, Dr. R. C. Yadav, Co-PIs and Dr. R. B. Srivastava, PI, BPD Unit participated in Global Agri Business Conference (NIABI-2011) held at ICRISAT, Hyderabad from March 8-10, 2011. The Conference was organized by the Network of Indian Agri Business Incubators (NIABI), ICRISAT, Hyderabad. The Director General, ICAR and Secretary DARE, Dr. S. Ayappan was the Chief Guest, while Director General, ICRISAT, Dr. William Dar presided over the function. The National Director, NAIP (ICAR), Dr. Bangali Baboo and National Coordinator (NAIP – Component I) were also present on the occasion.

The BPD Unit, CCS HAU also participated in the Technology Exhibition Show and demonstrated different Technologies available for commercialization. All the dignitaries visited the Stall of BPD Unit, CCS HAU and showed keen interest in the technologies developed by the Scientists of CCSHAU, particularly the “Milk Urea Detection Technology”.

Kisan Mela – 2011

The BPD Unit, CCS HAU Hisar organized another ‘Entrepreneur awareness and market sensitization’ of its products and participated in CCSHAU Kisan Mela (March 21-22, 2011) at the Gate No. 3, Balsamand Road, Hisar). The BPD, (Veterinary Products Unit) of COVS also exhibited its products and Technologies. The detailed brochures of all the four technologies available for commercialization through BPD (VPU) were provided to the visitors.

Signing of MOU for Non-Exclusive Licensing of “Milk Urea Detection Technology”

M/S DKS Incorporate Marketing Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Hisar, an incubatee and entrepreneur entered into MOU for non-exclusive licensing for the production and sale of the “Milk Urea Detection Technology” with CCS HAU on 20.4.2011. The BPD Unit, COVS, LUVAS got its first major commercial success through non-exclusive licensing and commercialization of its flagship product i.e. “Milk Urea Detection Technology” worth Rs. 8.5 lakhs for five years.

World Veterinary Day – 2011

A public awareness and market sensitization campaign was organized by the newly established BPD Unit, COVS, LUVAS, Hisar in association with the Deptt. of Vety. Public Health and Epidemiology (VPHE) at ATIC Building (Kisan Seva Kendra, Rajgarh Road, Gate No. 4, CCS HAU) on the occasion of World Veterinary Day – 2011, i.e. 30.4.2011. The main objectives of the campaign were i) to make public aware about the “Milk Urea Detection Kit” developed by the Scientists of the Deptt. of VPHE, and ii) to popularize the milk products developed by the Scientists of Deptt. of Livestock Products and Technology (LPT), viz. Flavoured Milk, Flavoured Lassi, Low Cholesterol Burfi and Ready to Serve Masala Paneer.

Incubation for “Milk Urea Detection Technology”

M/s Vanshika Milk Agro & Plastics Pvt. Ltd., Hisar is under incubation for Milk Urea Detection Technology and is now requesting for agreement with the University for Non exclusive License for the same.

Activities During 2011-12

A.    DEVELOPMENT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP:

Several start ups, small scale entrepreneurs visited the Milk Urea Detection Campaigns organized by the BPD Unit in past, also contacted through e-mail and telephonically, were impressed with the products and technologies developed by the Scientists of LUVAS.
Out of the above, one entrepreneur M/s Vanshikha Milk Plastic and Agro Products, Hisar bought 2.0 Litres of “Milk Urea Detection Reagent” for market survey and public acceptance of the product and signed MOU for Non-Exclusive licensing of “Milk Urea Detection Technology” on 23.7.2011.

BPD Unit, AAU, Anand:  BPD Unit, AAU, Anand entered into MOU with BPD Unit, CCS HAU Hisar on 30.9.2011 for co-incubation of Milk Urea Detection Technology as well as other commercializable technologies on the occasion of University Industry Interaction Programme at Regional Research Station Uchani, Karnal. Subsequently, Business Manager, BPD Unit, CCS HAU, Hisar along with Sr. Business Fellow visited BPD Unit, AAU, Anand for demonstration of the “Milk Urea Detection Technology” to the perspective entrepreneurs in Nov. – Dec. 2011 as follows:

ii. National Meat and Poultry Processing Board: The Director of Research, LUVAS signed MOU with National Meat and Poultry Processing Board (NMPPB), Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GOI on 3rd November 2010 for providing technical inputs for boosting the meat and poultry industry in the country.

iii. ZTM-BPD Unit, IARI, New Delhi: The Zonal Technology Management – Business Planning and Development (ZTM-BPD) Unit, IARI (ICAR), New Delhi is also willing to enter into MOU with CCS HAU Hisar for mutual commercialization of technologies on similar pattern as above, for which the terms and conditions are being finalized at their end.

iv. Veterinary Universities: The Deans, COVSc&AH, Mhow (M.P.) and COVASc, RUVASc, Bikaner, Rajasthan have shown interest in HS Antibody ELISA and Milk Urea Detection Kitsand have requested for the supply of these kits for revalidation in their laboratories.

A revenue of Rs. 33,000/- has been generated through sale of HS ELISA Kit.

More companies in public and private sectors are being explored for commercialization of technologies.

b. Private Sector Institutions:

A non-exclusive License agreement has been executed by National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), New Delhi with M/S Hester Biosciences Limited, Ahmedabad, Gujarat for the process of ‘Schizont Cell Culture Vaccine against Bovine Tropical Theileriosis’ at New Delhi on 1.11.2011 with a lump sum premium of Rs. 2.75 lacs and 2.5% royalty for 7 years. The technology was developed by Dr. R. D. Sharma and Dr. A. K. Nichani, Deptt. of VPHE and has got patents worldwide (International Patent Nos. WO 2005/109991 A3 dt. 23.12.2009 (Sri Lanka); 28656 dt. 1.6.2007 (Morocco) and 13625 dt. 28.12.2007 (Africa).

Further, three private sector companies viz. M/S Indian Immunologicals Limited, Hyderabad; ii) M/S UBIOS, Kerala and iii) M/S Bovian Health Care Pvt. Ltd., Faridabad, Haryana have been enquiring about different technologies developed by scientists of our university. It is hoped that few of the technologies shall be commercialized during the forthcoming year (2012-13).

More companies in public and private sectors are being explored for commercialization of technologies.

C. FASTENING THE TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER:

1. Technology Demonstration and Public Awareness Camps: For fast transfer of university’s technologies, following technology demonstration, awareness and market sensitization programs were organized by the BPD (VPU) along with BPD Unit, CCS HAU Campus during the period under report. During these events, the Scientists associated with BPD (VPU), Business Manager and other staff of the BPD Unit were also provided guidance and information to organize commercialization activities as per the objectives of BPD (VPU) for different diagnostic kits.

2. Information to Veterinary Colleges, Institute Directors and Private Sector Companies regarding availability of Veterinary Diagnostic Kits and Technologies for Commercialization:  The Deans, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences; Directors, Animal Husbandry and Directors, ICAR institutes (animal sciences), in different states of India were apprised of various ‘Veterinary Diagnostic Kits and Technologies’ developed by the scientists of LUVAS, Hisar. Likewise letters were also sent to Private Sector Companies regarding availability of Veterinary Diagnostic Kits and Technologies for Commercialization.

3. Kisan Mela - 2012:

The Livestock Products and Technology Department in association with BPD (VPU) Unit, bagged First Prize for Best Display amongst the constituent departments of COVS, LUVAS. 

4. World Veterinary Day - 2012:

A public awareness and technology demonstration campaign was organized by the Deptt. of Vety. Public Health and Epidemiology (VPHE) and Livestock Products and Technology (LPT) at Gate No. 4, CCS HAU, Hisar on the occasion of World Veterinary Day – 2012, i.e. 28.4.2012. 

5. Coverage of the Milk Urea Detection Campaigns by Media/ Internet:

The ‘Milk Urea Detection-cum-Public Awareness Campaigns’ as well as Technology Demonstration and availability of Dairy Products were widely publicized in the vicinity of urban area of Hisar through the media to make the people aware about these events. The print media as well as television/ electronic media gave broad coverage of these events at different times.

D. OTHER MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS:

a. Inauguration of ‘Technology Business Incubator’ at COVS:

1. The ‘Technology Business Incubator’ was inaugurated and dedicated to the entrepreneurs on 15.7.2011 by Dr. Hardeep Kumar, worthy Vice-Chancellor, LUVAS, Hisar.

2. The various technologies, diagnostic kits developed and other achievements of BPD (VPU) are now available at the website of LUVAS home page under the heading “Technology Transfer”. 

3. The “Milk Urea Detection Technology” has been granted Patent No.: 250500 dt. 6.1.2012.

4. A total of seven technologies (five from Deptt. VPB: Inventors: Dr. Sandeep Gera and Dr. Anirban Guha (PG student), two from Deptt. LPM: Inventors: Dr. R. K. Sharma and PG students) and one from Deptt. LPT: Inventors Dr. Nita Khanna and PG student were identified for commercialization and patent applications were filed.

5. Several start ups, small scale entrepreneurs, public and private sectors companies visited the technology shows, demonstration campaigns organized by the BPD Unit and expressed interest in the various products and technologies developed by the Scientists of LUVAS.
  • M/s Vanshikha Milk Plastic and Agro Products, Hisar signed MOU for Non-Exclusive licensing of “Milk Urea Detection Technology” on 23.7.2011 with a total licensing fee of Rs. 8.0 lacs.
  • BPD Unit, AAU, Anand entered into MOU with BPD Unit, CCS HAU Hisar on 30.9.2011 for co-incubation of Milk Urea Detection Technology.

Day, etc.
  • The LPT Deptt. in association with BPD (VPU) Unit, bagged First Prize for Best Display amongst the constituent departments of COVS, LUVAS during Kisan Mela 2012.
8. The Milk Urea Detection Kits were made available at ATIC Gate No. 4, CCS HAU, Hisar and Veterinary Clinics subunit, Uchani, Karnal.
  • A revenue of approx. Rs. 12,000/- has been generated through sale of Kits at ATIC Centre.
9. The BPD (VPU) organized a “Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Programme” in technical collaboration with Deptt. LPT on March 2-3, 2012. Sixty participants attended the workshop.
  • A manual and a compact disc (CD) entitled ‘How to set up a New Entrepreneurship in Dairy Processing’ edited by Dr. R. S. Dabur and Dr. N. K. Kakker were released.

  • A manual entitled ‘Basics of Chicken Processing: A way to entrepreneurship’ written by Dr. Nita Khanna, Dr. D. P. Sharma, Dr. S. S. Ahlawat and Dr. Nitin Mehta was also released.
10. The worthy Vice-Chancellor, LUVAS has very kindly allowed to adopt the CCS HAU rules in respect of i) Licensing of Technologies Funds Rules and ii) Consultancy Rules for the time being and circulated vide CVU/ 2012/753-83 dated 2.5.2012.

b. Functioning of BPD (VPU) Unit, COVS, LUVAS:

As per the decision of a joint meeting held in the Fletcher Bhawan on 15.7.2011 and attended by the Officers and Vice-Chancellors of both the universities, it was unanimously decided that the BPD (VPU), LUVAS shall continue to operate as a sub-unit of the BPD Unit, Directorate of HRM, CCS HAU Hisar.

c. Website of Technology Business Incubator: The various technologies and diagnostic kits developed by the Scientists of LUVAS and other achievements of BPD (VPU) Unit are now available at the LUVAS home page under the heading “Technology Transfer”. 

d. Signing of MOU for Non-Exclusive Licensing of “Milk Urea Detection Technology”:

The BPD (VPU) got another commercial success through non-exclusive licensing/ MOU for commercialization of its flagship product i.e. “Milk Urea Detection Technology” to M/S Vanshikha Milk Agro and Plastic Products, Hisar for the production and sale of the “Milk Urea Detection Kits” with CCS HAU on 23.7.2011 with a total value of Rs. 10.0 lacs for four years. As per terms and conditions of licensing, initially a revenue of Rs. 1.5 lacs has been generated through licensing of Milk Urea Detection Technology at the time of signing of MOU.

e. Approval of Board of Management, CCS HAU for signing of Non-Exclusive Licensing/ MOU for “Milk Urea Detection Technology” with M/S Vanshika Milk agro and Plastics Pvt. Ltd., Hisar:

The Board of Management, CCSHAU in its 236th meeting held on 29.3.2011 considered the proposal for Non-Exclusive Licensing of “Milk Urea Detection Technology” and approved the same for signing of MOU with M/S Vanshika Milk Agro and Plastics Pvt. Ltd., Hisar for License Agreement by CCS HAU worth Rs. 10.0 lacs for four years.

f. Industrial Motivational Campaign:

A one day Industrial Motivational Campaign was organized jointly by BPD Unit, CCS HAU and MSME (Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Entreprises) on 29.11.2011. The event was organized at the Directorate of HRM, CCS HAU, Hisar.

g. National Workshop on Farmers led Innovation:

A National Workshop on “Farmers led Innovation” was organized by Haryana Kisan Ayog on Dec 23-24, 2012 at the Indira Gandhi Auditorium, CCS HAU, Hisar. The BPD (VPU) participated in the technology demonstration organized by the BPD Unit, CCS HAU, Hisar and also meeting

h. Second IPR-cum-BPD Advisory Board Meeting:

The 2nd IPR-cum-BPD Advisory Board Meeting was held on 31.12.2011 under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. K. S. Khokhar at the Directorate of HRM, CCS HAU, Hisar. Dr. A. K. Pruthi (Dean, COVS), Dr. Ajit Singh (Inventor and HOD, Vety. Microbiology), Dr. R. S. Dabur (Inventor and HOD, Deptt. of LPT), Dr. Gulshan Narang (Inventor) and Dr. N. K. Kakker (Co-PI, BPD-VPU) participated actively in the advisory board meeting.

i. Global Agribusiness Conference 2012:

The BPD (VPU) participated in ‘Global Agribusiness Conference 2012’ at IARI, New Delhi from February 6-9, 2012. The Conference was organized by the Network of Indian Agri Business Incubators (NIABI-2012), ICRISAT, Hyderabad. The conference was inaugurated by his excellency Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Ex-President of India. The Director General, ICAR and Secretary DARE, Dr. S. Ayappan presided over the function.

j. Dairy Farming Training Module-1:

The farmers attending the ‘Dairy Farming Training Module-1’ organized by Directorate of Extension Education, LUVAS visited the BPD (VPU) Unit on 17.2.2012 and were briefed about the starting of entrepreneurship in dairy and meat products.

k. SFAC Agribusiness Camp:

The Scientists associated with BPD (VPU) participated in one day “Agribusiness Awareness Camp” organized jointly by BPD Unit, CCS HAU, Hisar, SFAC, New Delhi and ICRISAT on 22.2.2012. Dr. R. S. Dabur, Prof. & Head, Deptt. LPT, LUVAS delivered a lecture on “  entrepreneurship” which was highly appreciated by the dignitaries as well as delegates.

l. Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Programme:

The Business Planning and Development (Veterinary Products) Unit organized a “Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Programme” in technical collaboration with Deptt. of LPT, COVS, LUVAS and financial help through BPD Unit, CCS HAU Hisar on 2nd and 3rd March 2012. The response was overwhelming with as much as 60 (sixty) participants attending the two days workshop.

A manual entitled ‘How to set up a New Entrepreneurship in Dairy Processing’ edited by Dr. R. S. Dabur and Dr. N. K. Kakker was released on the inaugural function by Dr. A. K. Pruthi, Dean, COVS-cum- Chairman, BPD (VPU). A Compact Disc (CD) was released on the concluding day by Dr. M. K. Garg, Director, HRM and Controlling Officer of BPD Unit, CCS HAU, Hisar.

Further, a manual ‘Basics of Chicken Processing: A way to entrepreneurship’. Written by Dr. Nita Khanna, Dr. D. P. Sharma, Dr. S. S. Ahlawat and Dr. Nitin Mehta was also released on this occasion by Dr. S. M. Chahal, Director of Research-cum-Co-Chairperson BPD (VPU).

m. Annual General Meeting of ICAR:

Dr. Gulshan Narang, Inventor, Milk Urea Detection Technology participated in the Technology Exhibition held during the Annual General Meeting of ICAR at NASC Complex on 6.3.2012 and demonstrated his technology to worthy Member of Parliaments and other dignitaries present during the event.

n. Preliminary Training of Scientists for operating Bio-reactor at BPD (VPU):

Six Scientists associated with BPD (VPU) Unit underwent Capacity Building training on “Operating techniques for Bioreactor” at Technology Business Incubator from May 8-10, 2012:

Costing/ Valuation of Technologies: The NAIP(ICAR), New Delhi has taken up the preparation of a comprehensive document on technologies ready for commercialization for inviting prospective entrepreneurs. Accordingly, after compiling the information on the technologies and diagnostic kits, the relevant proformas have been sent to the concerned quarters. Likewise, another document is also under publication by BPD Unit, CCS HAU, Hisar which also contains the information on diagnostic kits and technologies developed by the scientists of LUVAS, Hisar.

p. Validation of Technologies: During the visit of National Director, NAIP to CCS HAU Hisar and also on previous occasions, it was emphasized that our technologies need to be validated by other (third party) agencies. Needless to mention that validation of technologies is always required before actual commercialization. Accordingly, following public sector and private sectors institutes were approached for validation of technologies developed by Scientists of LUVAS:

i. Commandant, Central Military Veterinary Laboratory, Meerut, U.P.
ii. The Director, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly, U.P.
iii. The Director, CCS National Institute of Animal Health, Baghpat, Meerut, U.P.

q. Patent Applications and IPR Activities: The following patents have been granted to Dr. Gulshan Narang and Dr. R. S. Khokhar, Deptt. Vety. Public Health & Epidemiology, as under:
